There have been several users noting an issue where they can see their iOS device in the Air Display task bar but nothing happens when they select it. Below is a list of tips we've found and other users have found that resolve the issue for some.

• Make sure there are no firewalls installed on the PC or wireless router that could be blocking the connection. Disable them temporarily to see if this helps.
• Reset your wireless router by unplugging it from the wall for a bit
• Turn Air Display on your PC and iOS device off and then back on again and try connecting again
• Try moving a window or just the mouse cursor over to whichever side of your main display you have your iOS device set to be in the Air Display arrangement
• Close Air Display on your PC. Then right-click on it and choose to 'Run as Administrator'.
• Try creating an ad-hoc network on your PC and have your iOS device join that to see if the results are any different with a different network
• Try switching between selecting your iOS device in the Air Display task bar and 'No Device selected'. Go back and forth several times to see if you can get a connection to stick.
• Uninstall Bonjour from your PC and then go to http://support.apple.com/kb/dl999 to download the latest version and install it.
• Check to see if you wireless network is set to 802.11n only. If it is, switch to a mixed network.
• Check that your PC is does not have a manually set IP address and instead is configured for DHCP

crcdisk.sys hangs on boot of VISTA 64 (1 reply)

Hi.

I installed air display on Vista 64.
I tried to connect to iPad several times, but failed.
After that, I uninstalled the program and rebooted.
The machine freezes on boot screen(crcdisk.sys).

The page below explains why crcdisk.sys error happens.
http://www.articlesbase.com/data-recovery-articles/windows-vista-boot-process-freezes-at-crcdisksys-2030876.html

So I guess the application(beta) does not uninstall all the drivers properly.
Now I'm trying to delete some drivers in safe mode.
I'll update when a solution is found.

thx.

Hi, I was able to successfully install Air Display on my MacBook Pro running Windows 7 64-bit.
Besides some expected lag, here's my only gripe as of yet:

When I connected the iPad, I noticed that it disabled all of the graphical Aero interface features (Aero Peek, translucent Glass Effect forms, animations, Flip 3D).
I am running a total of 3 displays: laptop, external cinema display and iPad via Air Display. Once I disable the iPad display, the Aero interface is restored.

If this is a bug, it's fully understandable considering the beta state of the software and I will patiently await an update.

I could also imagine that this occurs by design as a means to increase performance, however if that's the case I would have appreciated some sort of notification before I downloaded the app, as despite the added functionality of a peripheral monitor, it hinders a feature that is vital for me as a software dev.

Despite having an Apple laptop, I (unfortunately) run Windows on it most of the time, since Visual Studio is the required IDE at my place of work.
I have the Mac version of Air Display installed on the respective partition and have been happy with it, but rarely need an external monitor in those circumstances, as the Mac side is reserved for casual computing.

Air Display over USB? (5 replies)

Hey all,

I've successfully connected Air Display to my Windows 7 computer (64 bit) without incident. I'm noticing some pretty heavy latency issues as well as some CPU spikes, but I assume this is all part of the wireless deal. (I have a Core i7 920, it runs pretty well regardless)

It seems that a lot of users are looking to use their iPad as a secondary display, but I'd be surprised if anybody wouldn't trade the ability to connect over WiFi for the ability to use USB, thereby reducing CPU usage and helping smooth things out.

Are there any plans to allow a user to simply plug in their iPad over USB, run the application, and have a lag free, beautiful secondary USB display? For me, the increased performance easily trumps any wireless ability, I'm sure I'm not alone here in that regard.

Thanks!
After I installed the Airdisplay software on my Macbook Pro 2010 I can not boot it anymore. The only thing I get on my screen is a Black and White ribbon. it looks like Airdisplay crashed my display drivers.

What can I do to fix this? thanks.

Hi -

I love the product. Especially the ease of use and setup. (with my Mac that is)

I can't seem to connect my PC either, and have run through all the troubleshooting tips I've seen here.

However, that is not why I'm writing. When I connect to my MacBook, it works perfectly for about 5 minutes and then always loses the connection. I've tried the troubleshooting with the router, and even tried with different routers and networks, but the same problem always occurs.

I didn't see this on anybody else's post. Is this already a known issue, and if so, is there a solution?

Thanks for any tips! Keep up the good work. You guys are doing a great job answering these posts!

Hello, I am new to Air Display and and having trouble getting it to work on my Windows 7 x64 machine. I downloaded the windows client and installed it fine. I then restarted the PC and also open Air Display on my iPad. When I open the Air Display menu on the PC I see my iPad listed and when I click it, the screen on the PC blinks for a second and then nothing happens. The iPad remains checked in the menu, but the screen on the iPad stays on the Avatron screen with the installation instructions. I am able to configure the display arrangement and it looks like it should be working, but there is no change on my iPad. I'm sure I'm just missing something, but can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

First, I want to say that I love the application. Although there are several issues to work on during beta testing (as expected), I'm sure this is going to be one of my favorite applications for the iPad.

I was able to get it the extended desktop to work; however, Windows reverts back to non-Aero settings as soon as the application starts and the display loads. Will Aero be supported soon? If you could get this to work, the application would be much more valuable.

Any instructions / updates on Aero support would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
It's on the same network, but my desktop is connected via an ethernet cable (no wireless card) whereas the iPad is connected via wireless. Sorry if this is a duplicate question, but I haven't been able to find a clear answer and don't want to pay $10 to test it out, but I'd love it if it worked! Thanks!

Hello, wanted to post some feedback regarding the Windows Beta.

1- First, great idea for a great App. I'm confident your team will work the kinks out. This app really makes the iPad a useful tool for pilots. What a great way to run FlightPrep ChartCase EFB (electronic flight bag) software! My iPad can now function as my primary display for aeronautical charts, plates, terrain awareness, synthetic vision, and my Windows 7 convertible notebook can hang under the seat with GPS and XM Weather streaming to it while using the iPad to display everything. Just as you stated in your documentation, a simple ad hoc network was all the setup needed and it took less than 10 minutes to get it all running. I've attached an image for all to see, that was a pretty sweet flight.

2- Flight Simulator (Microsoft Flight Sim X or FSX) users is a popular multi-display user group that I'm confident will be using your app. Unfortunately, if you have the current Air Display (AD) Beta (1.1.0 (7616)) installed on a Windows XP or 7(64 or 32) with an iPhone or iPad connected FSX will not start. The message that appears when the FSX program is attempting to start is "Invalid Hardware or Driver Detected" then in the message box: "This graphics card does not meet minimum requirements for shader support. This product requires a geForce3/Radeon8500 class or better graphics card. Flight Simulator will now exit." Once the AD app is terminated Flight Sim runs fine and uses the two NVidia GPU's to run FSX very well.

3-MS Outlook 2010, typically run with Windows Aero (which is turned off when AD starts) suffers a color modification that whites out many of the options in Outlook. This issue occurs regardless of which monitor outlook is presented on. I cannot reasonably run outlook when using the current version of AD due to the color skewing.

4-Windows AD obviously does not have the mirror function that the MAC version does. Is that coming?

5-When starting the AD software from the start menu and the app is already running in the system tray you may want to pop a message stating that the program is already running.
