When accessing airsharing via web browser. The current location of the "upload file" in the footer section of the html page makes it an inconvience should a user have large set of file in a directory. While i suppose its not a huge problem i think it would be an improvement none the less.

I suggest moving this code as part of HTTPDirListingFooter.html to HTTPDirListingHeader.html (or above the beginning of the file listings)

Other than this one suggestion, I admire how smoothly the program runs, never had a problem yet.

Is there (or could there be) an application that will allow the iPad to be a remote desktop with the capability to control the cursor (i.e., mouse) on the desktop from the iPad? If so, it seems as though this would allow me to throw away my Wacom Bluetooth Graphire tablet and start using a live screen to write remotely on a whiteboard for educational purposes.

Hi,
You should update Air Sharing with higher resolution icons and artwork for the iPhone 4 display.
Other apps have done this and it really looks noticeably better.

I often download files like PDFs through the Air Sharing downloader and I've noticed that some of those files get frequent updates. I'd like to see a way to download the new version of those files directly from the Air Sharing Pro UI without the need to copy the link back in the downloader every weeks.

The way I see this could work is to be able to tag a file as an offline that would request the URL for the original file. Then, the app would display a sync button to the right of the file that would initiate an update once tapped.

I have a feature request for a browser, internal to Air Sharing, that would allow you to use the upload buttons (like the "attach file" option on this site for instance) and be able to select any of the files accessible be Air Sharing. There are many times when I need to attach files to webmail or other websites from my iPad where this would be indispensable.

I purchaces Air Sharing Pro, but there's no indication of that when I open Air Sharing. You should add something that shows the version a person is using. At the time I purchased it, I had a problem with iTunes. The transaction took days to complete, so I want to be sure I actually got the pro version, even though my bank account was charged. You need to add an 'about' screen or something to show users the version they have

Hi

I've been using Air Sharing since mid 2008 and it's one of my most used iphone apps. I just wanted to throw out a little suggestion that I think could make a great app even better.

I often use the app as a secondary media player - it's much faster to just drop a quick track or two into Air Sharing than it is to do a full itunes sync. The new media player part of the app is pretty cool, but has a big pitfall over using the quicktime player as it used to... Lock screen? No play!

In my ideal world, the app would do the following:
- Continue to play music if the screen is locked
- Remember playback position if you quit the app (e.g. if a phone call comes through)

If that's not possible, maybe an option to switch back to using the old qucktime player

Other than that, a big thanks to the developers for a great app!

HI! I don't know if the app does allow to view the movies archived in AIR sharing on a TV screen. I have connected my Ipod by the apple cables kit to a TV monitor through the three video cables ( yellow, red, white) but the videos don' appear on the tv monitor screen.
Do I make some mistake?

I switch back and force among several files in different folders. Please add a menu or list showing "recent files" to make switching files a snap.

My main wireless network is different from the one printers are connected. Please let me specify printers by IP addresses.

It's awkward entering URLs on the Servers page (2 replies)

I am beginning to use the free webspace provided by my ISP to move files between my several Apple appliances, like a sort of poor man's iDisk. So, in Air Sharing Pro, FTP access to Servers is a very useful function.

Unfortunately, on the Servers page, the only operation available in the "Edit" mode seems to be 'delete" and start over. I find this very tedious, as I often make small errors when I key-in URLs.

I would like to be able to enter and edit the URLs similarly to the method used in the address line in Google and other apps, i.e., using a backup/delete key and a moveable cursor. Is that possible?

Please support Box.net through the use of their API.

As you no doubt know, Box.net is one of the leading cloud storage providers. Our organization is moving towards adopting them for our storage needs. Since they no longer support WebDAV, Box.net is not accessible through Air Sharing. The iPad is going to be a wonderful business tool and seems to be designed to use cloud storage. So I think Box.net would be a huge addition to Air Sharing.

Love the interface. But for now I have to use Good Reader to access my files.

I have a iPAD, I'm using HD. Would it be possible to change a PDF to a ibook format for use in for easier scrolling viewing and referencing ? I have manuals in PDF format and it is hard to scroll around to find items. It is almost easier to pick up the paper versions. Also a cut and paste?

I'd first like to say that I've really loved using your product on my iPhone and iPad. When you added FTP as a client on Air Sharing, doors really opened up! It's allowed me to do a ton of cool things will all kinds of computers and devices.

I'd like to throw my two cents in and request that you let Air Sharing SERVE over FTP as well as WebDAV. FTP is so ubiquitous, that it really makes some exciting possibilities with vintage computers that simply can't connect via WebDav.

My observations surrounding the issues related to my 'Never-ending iPhone Backups' are revealing some interesting details. I believe most, if not all of my issues are already known by your engineers, and the facts are likely not new to them, either. Therefore, I will present my findings and conclusions, and hopefully, down the road, these issues will become better recognized and addressed as real problems and the solutions will be incorporated into the overall product design. Robert, with your direction, I will also forward my remarks to the product feedback group as you suggest, but I believe someone in development needs to digest this, since my current issues will likely become more and more common as users continue to push the envelope of device capabilities and larger storage capacities, i.e. iPad.

My problem with the iPhone backup...

The background:

I've owned a 16G 3G for two years and recently traded up to a 32G 3GS.
I use the iPhone app 'Air Sharing', which enables the iPhone to be a file server with WiFi access across the LAN.
The data for Air Sharing, is currently categorized as 'App' in the iTunes info tab, and is currently 17G, leaving approx. 7G free and about 7G for iTunes music.

The problem:

If using the iPhone for more than an iPod music device and telephone, often other app data is stored with the app and is also backed up with the app.
My experience is that as the size of the iPhone 'Air Sharing' server increases, the length of time to backup the iPhone increases proportionally. No big surprise here!
With my configuration, it currently takes iTunes 12+ hours to do the initial full backup. The 1st Partial Incremental Backup, without ANY changes since the last full backup also takes 5+ hours to complete!
During the backup, incoming calls apparently either force the backup to restart or the backup finishes without any notification of premature completion. Not surprisingly, these two factors leave me with a zero confidence level for a clean backup.

The solution:

Since the USB bus can only shove so much data across the wire, it's unlikely that higher throughput is even possible. Therefore, any relief to the problem must be addressed in the backup design itself. One solution could be to allow the user to disable the backup of selected apps. [Perhaps a right-click on the App in the Apps Window in iTunes could allow for the option to 'Do not Backup' selected apps, similar to the 'Do not backup with Time Machine' option in many Mac apps.] Another option for future offerings, could be to provide an alternate backup mechanism completely; one not limited by the current serial USB bottleneck. Maybe backing up the iPhone via Time Machine technology could potentially turn this problem into a broader, elegant, long term solution.

Please feel free to contact me about my experiences related to this case. I don't expect an immediate resolution to my 'problem', but rather would be satisfied with the knowledge that those responsible for the design of the backup have had the opportunity to digest these particular issues and perhaps incorporate a more comprehensive and robust solution for a future release.

Since you can Now add real applications such as omni's brilliant graffle product the iPad, can air share add open with for this new Applications?
email open new extension types, such as .graffle, with the associated app why does air share not recognize the new extensions of my new apps.
Air share seems to work well for .pages .key and some others but i am wondering why air share pro doesn't recognize the extension to application relationship as the other apps do ( such as mail ) so I can use "open with"
Can air share get access to this association? Or will you need to hard code each extension?

Please add Amazon S3 to the default list of cloud storage for Air Sharing HD on the iPad. It's very inexpensive to use with unlimited, affordable storage. Amazon S3 is not accessible through WebDAV or any of the other options now available on Air Sharing HD. I have all my important files backed up there, and Air Sharing would be the perfect way to access them. Thank you.

Hello,
You have build a great app (AS Pro), but please continue to improve it.

It would be great browsing iPhone pictures and videos so that they could be copied to a different folder and printed.
Maybe you find as well a way of accessing iPhone e-mails and their attachments, contacts, calendar information and web pages for saving and printing. That would be really great. Maybe os 4.0 provides possibilities you could use.

Please provide as well CIFS/SMB support.

Another very important wish relates to printing in general. Please provide a printing solution for Windows and IP-Printers.

I know it is not as easy as with Apple but maybe it is possible to develop a small software for Windows which receives the printing jobs of AS Pro and push them to the standard Windows printer.

I believe you would increase number of app-sales/-users with windows background enormously. I had the feeling that you might think there is not enough potential and therefore no reason to developing this area.

I am looking forward to you next updates.

iPad File Sharing enhancement feature (2 replies)

So the way iWork documents are shared from the computer to the iPad and vice versa is by plugging the iPad and managing the transfer through iTunes.

Would it be possible for your application to have access to that folder so that instead of plugging the iPad to iTunes, we can just transfer it via Air Sharing then drop it from there into that file sharing folder? I was hoping iWork would have had that as a logical way of saving files and moving them from device to Mac and the other way around, but it didn't.

Is this possible and are you planning on adding such a feature?

It would be great to have a Delete button or similar Delete function directly when viewing pictures (and other documents for that matter). This would make sorting your photo library on the iPad a simple task! Currently you would have to
- remember the filename,
- go back to the file browser,
- find the file there,
- delete it,
- go back for the next one
...

Hi, been using Air Sharing for possibly a year or so now and have got the Pro version.

I've got a bunch of medicals documents in CHM files which are currently just merely in Air Sharing for storage, with no means of opening them.

Really wish you could add support for this document format.

Air Sharing is wonderful and I use it all the time, but there is one thing that is extremely irritating. I have many Microsoft Word documents that contain special characters (symbols). I use these symbols for various designations. They do not show in Air Sharing. Please provide support for special characters (the whold Symbol set).
